Mobile Video Games: An Overview
(April 25, 2006)

What are they?
Cell phones (or mobile phones as they are called in most places outside of the United States and Canada) have come such a long way from the brick-sized monsters they were ten years ago. With the latest developments in image quality, reception, and general mobile technology comes the added bonus of enabling us to perform a variety of functions on our portable phones. Mobile video games are one these new functions that seems to be capturing the attention of millions of cell phone users across the globe. And for the poker enthusiast, this of course means even more opportunities to play our favorite games, such as poker, blackjack, and other popular parlor games.
These mobile games are similar to any type of video game. They allow us to pass time by clicking a button and launching into a game of poker, blackjack, and a host of other casino-related games. Now, if you find yourself with a few spare minutes, whether you’re standing in line at the bank or waiting for that delayed flight, why not check out one of the many new games available.
Although, mobile games don’t quite have the same quality of graphics of online games, continual advances in the field mean that probably within a few years, the picture quality and number of features will equal that of current PC and console games.
Where can I find them?
There are a number of websites dedicated entirely to the field of mobile video games. Here are just a few of them:
www.gamespot.com/mobile/index.html
www.myphonegames.co.uk
www.gameloft.com
www.zingy.com
If you are looking for a certain type of game (for example Blackjack), run a Google search and you will find several sites offering information on how and where to purchase a game.

Midnight Hold’em Poker
There are virtually hundreds of poker-related games now available. Easily downloaded within a few minutes, and costing only around $5, they have proven to be extremely popular in recent years as the poker boom continues to echo throughout the gaming world.
In upcoming articles, we will provide a run-down of some of the best (and worst) games that are currently available. Some of the games offer a very realistic setting and gaming experience, while others are rather poorly developed and their production seems to be rushed in order to cash in on the current poker craze. Keep in mind that as mobile technology improves, so too will the games.
